Program Phases

Working with partners and community groups, the SSMP team created the Phase I: 10-Year Plan, a strategic vision for delivering dust suppression and habitat projects in the Salton Sea. The Plan identifies a sequence of habitat and dust control projects around the perimeter of the Sea to be implemented by 2028. Specifically, these projects will be implemented on areas of lakebed that have been, or will be, exposed at the Salton Sea by 2028. While the state team implements the Phase I: 10-Year Plan, it is simultaneously developing a path forward for long-term restoration and management of the Salton Sea via the Imperial Streams and Salton Sea Ecosystem Restoration Feasibility Study led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) This study brings together a diverse set of skills and experience from the Corps, the Salton Sea Authority, and the SSMP team. The study is aimed at identifying projects and actions for the long-term restoration of the Salton Sea and builds off of the Salton Sea Management Program’s Long-Range Plan document.
